The editor behind the Collection
Outlux was founded on a simple conviction: luxury travellers deserve recommendations they can trust — made by someone who checks in anonymously, pays independently, and answers to no hotel, airline, or tourism board.
Nearly two decades of travel. Hundreds of hotels. Every stay paid out of pocket — not because I had to, but because independence is the only currency that matters when you are asking someone to trust your opinion. Along the way I fell in love with the details that separate a good hotel from a great one: the weight of a door handle, the silence of a well-built room, the instinct of a concierge who anticipates without intruding.
I wanted to share that obsession — to build something for travellers who care about craft, refinement, and the quiet art of being looked after well. Outlux is what came of it. Every stay is anonymous. Every place in the Collection is earned by the experience itself, never by a marketing budget or a complimentary upgrade.
Why we travel the way we do
Most luxury travel media assumes you are travelling as a couple. It assumes certain destinations are universally welcoming. It rarely asks whether a solo diner will be seated in the corner or whether two men checking into a suite will be met with warmth or awkwardness.
Outlux pays attention to the details that other guides overlook. We note how a property treats a guest dining alone. We assess whether a destination feels genuinely safe and welcoming for every guest — whether travelling alone or not. These are not niche concerns. They are the reality of travel for millions of people who have been underserved by traditional luxury media.
The philosophy
Every property in the Collection has cleared The Outlux 100 — our proprietary framework of one hundred criteria across four pillars: The Suite, The Service, The Soul, and The Sustainability. No property receives advance notice. No place in the Collection is influenced by commercial relationships. No place in the Collection can be bought.
This independence is the foundation of everything we do. When we recommend a hotel, it is because the experience earned that recommendation — not because a marketing budget made it possible. When we recommend, it is specific: the room, the table, the season, the thing nobody tells you. We stay in far more hotels than we publish; the ones that fall short are simply left out.
We are not here to sell you a holiday. We are here to tell you which ones are worth having.

The Weekends
Curated city guides for the time-poor traveller. Two to three days, one city, every detail considered — from the hotel to the neighbourhood to the restaurant worth crossing town for. Built for solo professionals who refuse to compromise on quality.
The Escapes
Trip planning and booking from the editor. For travellers who want us to handle the booking: Collection properties first, other properties only when the trip requires it, with the amenities our agency affiliation brings.
The independence pledge
Every stay behind the Collection is booked anonymously and paid in full. Properties are not notified before, during, or after a stay. No hotel sees its entry before it appears, and none can alter or suppress one.
Outlux Escapes receives standard industry commissions from hotels when it books clients, in the same way as any travel advisor. Whether a hotel pays commission has no bearing on whether it is in the Collection. The two sides of the business are kept apart, and we say so in full on our Editorial Independence page.
